Frequently Asked Questions

We work hard to schedule appointments as quickly as possible for all our clients. Sometimes, self-pay clients can get appointments sooner because there’s less paperwork involved. But no matter how you pay, everyone receives the same high-quality care from us.

At this time we accept Medicare, Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP), and Alameda Alliance. We are hoping to expand to other plans in the future. (see below for sliding scale)

Absolutely! At NSNP, we’re passionate about connecting with neurodiverse individuals. We work collaboratively to understand the impact of autism or ADHD on your life. Using clear, direct language, we work to learn about your strengths and challenges. At the same time, it is essential to acknowledge systemic oppression and challenge neurotypical misunderstandings of neurodiverse individuals. We believe in fostering a society where everyone’s unique perspectives are respected and valued. We aim to cultivate a warm, inclusive atmosphere where you’re supported and celebrated as you flourish.

  • The diagnostic code (ICD code)—for example, for autism—is submitted with billing, which indicates you were evaluated for that condition.

Yes. No information is shared with any third party if you do not use your insurance. This means you would pay for the evaluation out of pocket.

We offer streamlined assessments when there are no complex medical or diagnostic concerns. Fees range from $1200 to $3800, depending on the scope of the evaluation. If your case qualifies as complex, you will be informed during the intake session.

Yes, we offer accommodations assessments. If you’re seeking accommodations for college or standardized testing, contact your school or the testing website for specific criteria and forms. Our comprehensive assessments typically require 6-8 hours of cognitive testing to fulfill the requirements. It’s important to note that insurance doesn’t cover this type of assessment. However, we’re dedicated to working with you to ensure you receive the support you need. (See below for sliding scale assessments).

We work with individuals 16 and up. We recommend reaching out to your insurance or inquiring with one of these resources.

Therapy – Isaac Higgins, ASW, is a bilingual therapist providing services in English and Spanish.

At this time, we only provide individual therapy. Clients sometimes feel it is helpful to bring family or friends into the session to discuss their work.

We do not. Next Steps Neuropsychology’s mission is to provide services for our community. Many practices offer a sliding scale, but few take insurance such as Medicare or MediCAL. We value providing services where people can use their benefits. We do not offer sliding scale services to see as many people with these insurances as possible.
